Most modern cars use plastic pedals. I would refit the pedal spring and put a new full clutch kit in. New clutches are always lighter by design and you can ensure input shaft/bearing is greased.

Heavy Clutch S50?

Thank you C_W, it seems a long job to replace a perfectly good clutch, but it may have to happen as you suggest.
May I ask what is the fundamental difference between what I suspect is the original clutch in the car (73k miles) and an off the shelf modern item? You suggest they are always lighter than those originally installed, but why?
I'm an engineer and just have that enquiring mind ????
Any info is most welcome and if there are any recommendations for a clutch assy I would be grateful?
TQ
George
