  • Battery Recomendations

Think my battery has given up the ghost, the cTek charger has a red light on the i LED which according to the manual means possible faulty battery. Will get a tester on it later.

Its a Bosch S5 007 thats in it just now, must be over 7 years old now.

Has anyone replaced their battery recently? If so what did you go for?

I replaced mine in April 2019, after checking back through the extensive service history/bills that I have for the car found out that the old one was 10 years old. It was was a Bosch S4 007 (cost in 2009, £81-95 plus £25 labour - total £122-99), new one was identical S4 007 bought from my local motor parts factor (cost £76 no labour cost as fitted myself). I checked Halfords and Europarts and they were quoting prices in excess of £110 at the time. Quick check on Europarts tonight quotes £128 for the same battery. So check around.

I replaced an 11 year old Bosch S5007 in mine this time last year as it was only holding charge for about 72 hours by then.
Have to say I was impressed that the battery had had such an extended life so I replaced with another bosch - bought from costco as they seem to be about the cheapest.

I’ve had the Bosch S5 008 on mine and had no issues for years. Had to buy a new one earlier this year and it’s been a real pain. I’ve not used the car much but after 7 months it just won’t keep a charge, that’s after it took ages to actually take the charge without the Ctek keep erroring.

Had to jump it today, left running for ages to charge it and warm the engine through; dead as do do again now…

I bought online (Tayna) so will probably have a load of hassle replacing it.

My replacement battery - a Bosch S4 007 - has been no bother since it was fitted over 2 years ago. The car even has a dashcam installed so it can't be draining the battery, I do have a Ctek but haven't used it so far. The car isn't on SORN as I use it all year round so does get a regular run (but not in the snow!!) - mileage so far this last 12 months between MOTs was 1260miles up 200miles on previous lockdown year.
Touch wood the good battery performance continues.
