  • Shadow Chrome finish - definitive examples.

I’ve just had mine refinished and it’s come back too dark.
I’m sure my prior finish was correct, and the colour now is not right but I’m finding it difficult to cite definitive proof and the company I used assure its correct.
It’s Chromaflare over black which is the right process, but imo it’s too dark.
    Any thoughts..

Yea this is after the refurb last week. That’s what I’m saying - I think they are too dark. The ones in the top pic - on the slope - are wheels I got from Indy in fact.

Thing is with Shadow Chrome is they're very light sensitive. In some lights they can look almost black, whilst in others they pop vivid silver.
I have them on mine and the finish is essentially pearlescent so very sensitive to light source and angles of reflection.

I think part of the problem is people dont actually know what shadow chrome should look like so they end up being much darker than the factory colour back in 2001. Worth looking at press pictures of the M Coupe to see what they should look like.

I would think these are original which look more like your first picture?

This is the best example to show the difference - same car as above

Well you’re right, but actually that finish you’ve shown isn’t how mine were, or how they are now either. It’s darker like my new ones, but has more sparkle to it.

Here's a picture of what I believe is the original shadow chrome finish -

Picture from the last ever M Coupe which is owned by BMW in the States - you would presume its the original wheel and tyre from 2002
