  • Steering Wheel Squeak??

    Hi all
My steering wheel has developed a squeaking noise whilst in the straight forward position. If you move it very slightly from side to side it squeaks like I have a canary hidden in the cabin.
It tends to not be so noticeable once I've been in the car for a while i.e. worse at start up.
Anyone else had a similar thing and know what it may be?
    Thanks

    Former Rides: Carbon Black/Kiwi '02 E46 M3 Convertible, Sprint Blue/Black '04 RS4 Convertible, Sterling Grey/Black '04 Alpina Roadster S (No. 67), Hyper Blue/Black '04 Mini Cooper S Convertible, Chilli Red/Black '04 Works Mini Cooper S

I've got the optional budgie upgrade also. Only really noticed it during the winter. Once things have warmed up it seems to fly off somewhere.
Not actually in the least bit fat

I have it too - I think mine comes from the slip-ring rather than a dry bearing or joint?

Sounds like the slip ring ribbon thing?
I don't know if a new one fixes this, you might have to get used to it.

Interesting to see I'm not alone, but surely there's a way of fixing it?

Has anyone found a permanent fix for this? My car is at Munich Legends and they say it will cost £150 for a new thingamajig which will get rid of the squeak?? And no, I cannot live with the squeak!

I replaced the slip ring (B32.30.2.229.488) in Sep 09. Cost £86.09 plus vat less 10% discount.
                No issue since.
